History

Our company is an accredited Lloyd's Insurance Broker, which has traded continuously since its incorporation on 21st July, 1919 and formerly conducted its business under the name of W. A. Stickland & Co. Limited.

On 1st January, 1983 Corrie Bauckham Batts Limited acquired 100% of the share capital of W. A. Stickland & Co. Limited, merged its business into W. A. Stickland & Co. Limited and subsequently changed the name to Corrie Bauckham Batts Stickland Limited.

The original charter of W. A. Stickland & Co. Limited has been retained thus preserving over 90 years of continuous trading as a respected and privately owned Lloyd's Insurance Broker.

Upon completion of the transfer of the business in 1983 the original Corrie Bauckham Batts Limited became the holdings Company - Corrie Bauckham Batts Holdings Limited. In 1992, Stickland was dropped from the company name.

The Founder Members of Corrie Bauckham Batts Limited (CBB), Messrs. John Corrie, Doug Bauckham and Colin Batts had previously worked together at Lionel Sage & Co. Limited.

The Principals, having all worked together as a team since 1965, decided to move away from Antony Gibbs Sage in 1979. John Corrie passed away in December 2002 and Colin Batts retired May 1994.

Offices

Corrie Bauckham Batts moved to New Loom House in 1992 and are now the biggest of the building's tenants occupying offices on the 4th, 5th, and 6th floors.

The building was converted into offices in 1991 and was originally built in 1892 by Browne and Eagle as a wool warehouse.

Since then it has been used to store paper and for a time by a distributor of wine.

Back Church Lane, where the office is located, itself has a varied history - formerly known as Church Lane, it has been a thoroughfare since the middle of the fourteenth century.

Claret & Blue

Visitors to our offices will notice the colours claret and blue prevalent in the office colour scheme, coincidentally the team colours of a local football (soccer) team, West Ham United, supported by a number of our staff.

West Ham United were formed in 1895 as Thames Iron Works FC changing their name in 1900.

Many of our U.S. clients are now supporters.
